She lived in a magical city called New York with her parents and she had everything she ever wanted. She was her parents’ only child, so they spoiled her rotten while still trying to instill upon her the importance of being kind and caring to people. The princess grew up into a really beautiful, smart, funny girl and when she was 18 she went away to the far off land of California to study pre-law and follow in the footsteps of her selfless parents. But the princess would still come home to the magical city of New York for holidays, where she would ice skate in Central Park with her mother and look at Christmas lights with her dad and just soak up the beauty of the wonderful city.
And then one day, her mother was brutally stabbed to death in an alley and her father became an alcoholic. The princess locked herself inside a tower deep inside of herself where she could never be hurt again. And she became Kate Beckett, the sad girl who left Standford and came back to New York; who she still got her degree in pre-law but became a cop instead. And most of all, the magical city she lived in wasn’t really all that magical anymore.
So Kate Beckett stopped believing in magic.
Then one day, in an unexpected twist, Kate met a dashing young prince named Richard. The prince was handsome, and suave, and childlike and he still believed in magic, though Kate didn’t understand why. And they were forced to work together, and then they became friends. After some time, the prince had caught a glimpse of the beautiful princess in the tower, and he fell in love with her.
Bad things still happened to Kate. Horrible things, but this time, she wasn’t alone. The dashing prince stuck with her through it all, always there to cheer her on and make her feel like she was making a difference. Sure, they fought a lot, but at the end of the day, he taught her how to believe in herself. Kate started to be able to see the princess hiding in the tower, too, and Kate realized she missed her. And before long, instead of just being an annoyance, the prince became her lifeline - the single, driving force behind not only the vendetta to avenge her mother’s death, but also the only one that made an effort to find that tower where the princess lived, and find a way to climb it.
And more and more, the little princess began to show her face and she saw the prince. And she fell in love with him.
But it wasn’t easy. The princess was emerging, but still afraid, because she knew if she fully gave herself to the prince she would risk hurting the way she did when her mother died. But every time she tried to run away, the prince would always find her again. And he proved he was loyal, and kind, and beautiful, and the princess began to realize that losing him one day was a lot less scary than never having him at all, and that for all his faults, allowing herself to trust him was the next step in allowing herself to be who she was meant to be.
So one day she told him that she needed him. They didn’t live happily ever after - they still fought and they still had their differences. And sometimes the princess would still duck into the hidden tower that had been her home for 13 long years, the safest place she knew. But she began to come out more and more - first just to visit with the prince, but after a while, to venture even a little beyond the tower, although she still wasn’t ready to step out into the world.
But with the help of the prince, she knew one day she would be. And even though she was still scared that he would run away and leave her behind, and that she would be so broken-hearted she would crawl back in her tower and hide away again, the princess had now seen enough of the world to think the chance was worth it. Granted, it had taken the strength of a ruggedly handsome price to scale a tower wall, but it was enough to show the princess there was still some good in the land of New York, and it was worth living for.
The princess still doesn’t believe in magic, not really. But she believes in the prince who does.
my brother thinks season 5 of Castle is all Castle’s dream and Beckett died when she fell off the building at the end of season four.
that isn’t even funny. My brother is a horrible human being
Beckett doesn’t approve of this bullshit
Rule 1: Post the rules.
Rule 2: Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and then make eleven new ones.
Rule 3: Tag 11 people and link them in your post.
Rule 4: Let them know they’ve been tagged.
- When was the last time you saw someone, real or fictional, shirtless? Pretty sure the last person was Nathan Fillion in a Castle episode, fictional wise.
- Do you believe convicted felons and/or prisoners should be allowed the right to vote? The laws for this vary on state and can be found here. If you’re non-American, what do you think of this policy? I believe that if you’ve completed your sentence you should be able to vote, but I don’t think prisoners should be able to.
- Name three songs you consider “guilty pleasures”. Tik Tok by Ke$ha, Day and Night by Billie Piper, and When I Look At You by Mylie Cyrus.
- What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep? I think 26 hours.
- If you had to choose between never again feeling fear or never again feeling pain, what would you choose and why? This is a hard one because they are both reactions built into us to let us know there is something wrong. But I guess I would get rid of fear, since I could logically apply when I should be fearful to a situation, whereas sometimes pain is the only indicator that something is wrong inside of you and you wouldn’t know otherwise.
- Would you compete on a competition show - both reality shows and game shows count? If so, what one? Assume you’ll get past auditions. I always had a secret dream to be on American Idol.
- What shows are you watching right now? Castle, Hot Set, & Face Off.
- Have you ever donated blood? If no, why not? Yup! I used to donate very regularly, actually. I had to stop for a year after I got my tattoo and I just haven’t had time to go back to it yet.
- Peanut butter - crunchy or creamy? Creamy!
- Someone gets a way to look into your memories. What’s the one experience you most want to show them and why? The time I went up in a hot air balloon. It was just really cool.
- What’s the story behind your silliest scar? Most of my scars are lame and from burning myself on the oven. I guess my brand new knee scars? From that time I fell off a curb in Las Vegas, NM?
New questions -
- Funniest pet or animal story?
- Favorite quote from a book, movie or television show?
- What’s the first website you check every morning when you first get on the computer?
- What did you want to be when you grew up when you were little?
- What is the most creative or memorable lie you’ve ever told?
- If you had to name your hypothetical first born child after a fictional character, who would you choose and why?
- Would you rather be stranded in the woods or stranded on a tropical island?
- Who was the most influential person in your life growing up?
- Do you collect anything? If so, what? If not, don’t you?
- Movie that is your guilty pleasure?
- What was your least favorite book you were required to read in high school?
I have no idea how to tag people on this… So answer if you’d like to???

She does. Ryan and Esposito. The “partner” idea is very TV, in the real world cops tend to partner up in an unofficial capacity within their teams, but Beckett is a squad leader and doesn’t actually need a partner. One of her detectives should always be there to back her when she needs it.
On December 3rd 2012, Mercury , Venus and Saturn will align in the northeast over the pyramids in Giza. This particular alignment over the spacing of the pyramids is very rare. This won’t happen again for another 2,000 years.
Most astronomers will probably say this event is just a coincidence, but given the evidence of ancient Egypt’s impact in history, I keep an open mind. This could be a phenomena lost with an ancient civilization that seemed to have known a few things about the universe that we have yet to understand…
Aliens.
I’m not saying that it’s aliens, but it’s definitely aliens.
I feel like I’m suffering a little bit from the “are we watching the same show” syndrome upon reading this, but it does hit pretty close to home in terms of how I view to the show. Mostly because Castle is, for a show about heterosexuals (which is the only thing I can assume you mean by the “most heterosexual show on TV” comment), also one of the most non-heteronormative shows I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. While I won’t deny that I’m sure Beckett’s metrosexual comment (which, to be fair, I only remember occurring once) was belittling… Well, everything she says to Castle is belittling. That pretty much stands for itself, and it’s part of their banter.
But I think I take issue most with the comment of it being reflective of the writers of the show and their closed-mindedness. Part of Castle’s theme - to the point that is is almost a specialty, if you ask me - is not only the reversal of gender roles but the complete defiance of them. We have a female character - the tall, dark and silent type who is emotionally distant and troubled. The male character - the fun-loving, heart on their sleeve type who is as much homemaker as he is anything else. And it doesn’t stop there. The show continually and unapologetically turns these traditional tropes on their heads. And that’s the keyword for me - unapologetically. For as much as Beckett may razz on Castle for his lack of embracing his traditional gender roles, he never changes them. And as for much as she teases him for it, she is the epitome of defying these roles herself. Somewhere out there (and I would link it to you if I still had it, but I don’t), there is an amazing article discussing Castle’s role as a sexual submissive. It covers a lot of the specifics that I’m not going to go into, but my point of bringing it up is that it’s not fanon - Castle embraces his submissive qualities in the canon, and he doesn’t ever seek to change to adjust to the expectations of the role of a “man.”
Granted, when it comes to addressing queer identities and characters, Castle is lacking. But fortunately for us, there are shows out there that do address queer identities well and at length… Castle just isn’t one of them. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have it’s own platform to explore, and gender-roles is the main one it’s chosen. Regardless of seemingly narrow-minded quips from the characters, the writers show their open-mindedness by continuing to write deep and provocative characters who are unashamed of breaking outside the traditional roles that society has set for them. And that doesn’t bug me at all.
